Moretown Energy Group (MEG)

Moretown has joined with neighboring towns, including Waitsfield, Waterbury and Middlesex, and are working with Efficiency Vermont on items such as residential, business and town energy consumption, energy conservation, energy savings in buildings and commuting scenarios. The Vermont Legislature establish an Act in the 70’s for Towns to have an Energy Coordinator who would work with the Select Board to work on alternatives to energy use.

Please coontact MRNA if you want to help develop the vision and plan the next steps for MEG.

Mad River Byway

On February 16, 2006, the Vermont Transportation Board voted unanimously to approve the designation of the Mad River Byway (Route 100B Moretown & US 2 Middlesex Village). Thanks for all your support in making this happen! We hope you will continue to be involved in developing the Byway.

This designation of 100B as a Vermont Byway enables the town, organizations and regional entities to apply for federal funding for corridor management initiatives. Possible initiatives include economic development efforts, village enhancements, tourism and recreation promotion, and multi-modal transportation improvements.

We have recently been awarded a grant to develop signage, educational information and kiosks! More details are available in this article and in this 100B Grant Comments document.

Check out the photos of our celebration event!

Next meeting is May 8, 2008 7 p.m. at the Moretown Town Hall.

Please contact MRNA if you want to get involved!

Moretown Rock Mining Quarry - KEEP 100B QUARRY FREE

Schedule

We want to ensure that any development along the 100B corridor will not adversely impact the current quality of life. This area is designated as an exceptional scenic and recreational resource by the town of Moretown and is characterized by significant recreational use, farms and residential homes.

Our goals are:

  1. to participate in the permitting process,
  2. to understand completely the proposed project impacts,
  3. to provide information to others, and
  4. to work towards a solution where no one loses.

We continue to hope Mr. Rivers will consider working with his neighbors to find another use for his land that will ensure no one loses.

Based on personal knowledge, information from test blasts, submitted application, site visit and discussions with experts, we have some concerns. Here's some background.

Revised Moretown Earth Extraction Zoning Ordinance

On September 12, 2006, 25% of eligible Moretown voters cast their ballot. The revised Earth Extraction Zoning Ordinance passed by a margin of 164 to 119.

This new zoning ordinance will ensure no other quarry applications like the one we are currently facing can be filed. The Moretown voters have spoken - heavy industrial quarry activity is not a desired land use in Moretown.

Over the last 2 years the Moretown Select Board and Planning Commission listened to many concerned residents voicing very diverse opinions. Public hearings were held, surveys conducted and much research completed. This dedicated effort resulted in a revised zoning ordinance that addresses the major concerns of all who participated in this process.

Thank you for your support!
