If you have ideas/concerns for other campaigns that MRNA could become involved in, please share those with us. • Moretown Restoration from Tropical Storm IreneWhen Tropical Storm Irene hit the Mad River Valley in Vermont on August 28, 2011, Moretown suffered devastating damage. Many in our community lost homes and all their possessions. The Moretown Elementary School, Town Office, Town Hall and Fire Station were flooded. Town roads and bridges were washed away. About 50 historical buildings were damaged - some may be beyond repair. Please check out The Weather Channel Cantore's Message After Irene for a touching message of this life changing event for Vermont. Restoring Moretown is a long term effort. Many have volunteered hundreds of hours to date and much more will be needed. Grants and FEMA money will have an 'in kind' requirement. The Moretown community will be there for the duration and will become stronger during this recovery. MRNA has launched a campaign to raise at least $30,000 For Moretown. Our campaign kickoff was a Pig Roast and Leaf-Peeper’s Picnic - Saturday, October 1, 2011 Details here. We raised over $15,400 at this kickoff. Many of you have again shown the generosity of spirit that is characteristic of our community by sending in donations and pledges that -- when added to the proceeds from the pig roast -- total nearly $30,000!!!! The MRNA Board want you to be assured that 100% of that money will be distributed to help the families in Moretown who are in the greatest need. To that end, we have recommended to the Select Board that a committee be established to oversee the distribution. They have approved the proposal. Linda Hendrickson will represent MRNA on that committee. We have stipulated that the money must stay in Moretown and be used solely for the relief of those most affected by the flood. We have also provided that a monthly reporting of the money distributed will be provided to MRNA and the Select Board until all the funds have been allocated. The selection process for recipients, and the reporting of distribution will be done in a manner to protect the anonymity of those applying for and / or receiving support. 12/3/11 Update: The flood relief committee met several
times to discuss process and how to determine who would receive financial
assistance.
The committee consisted of Tom Martin, committee chair and select board
member; Deb Feldman, zoning administrator; Duane Pierson, Moretown ES
principal; Michelle Beard, coord. of food service post flood; and Linda
Hendrickson from MRNA. The committee didn't want to burden flood victims
with more paperwork, etc. so they made the decision not to use an application
process. Using the different areas of expertise of committee members,
a formula to distribute the funds was developed and agreed upon by the
committee. There was a total of $33,000 to be distributed--MRNA donation,
donations received directly by the town, and several thousand dollars
donated from proceeds of Vee Lynch's quilt auction. Pending the select
board's decision, there are 33 homeowners who will receive money; awards
range from $566.52 to $1, 982.83 depending on the homeowners's damage.
A second round of distribution will probably be done after the first
of the year using MRNA pledge donations. The committee will be meeting
again at that point to determine how to distribute these dollars. Please
help us restore Moretown by going to our Donations page.
Thanks for your support! • Moretown Energy Group (MEG)Moretown has joined with neighboring towns, including Waitsfield, Waterbury and Middlesex, and are working with Efficiency Vermont on items such as residential, business and town energy consumption, energy conservation, energy savings in buildings and commuting scenarios. The Vermont Legislature establish an Act in the 70’s for Towns to have an Energy Coordinator who would work with the Select Board to work on alternatives to energy use. Please coontact MRNA if you want to help develop and implement the vision for MEG. •

Fact witnesses, information from test blasts, submitted applications and expert reports, site visits and days of expert testimony at three different permit levels increased our concerns as more issues were exposed and supported by undisputed facts as the process unfolded. Please check the Past Schedule and Filings for information filed by all parties and process motions and decisions.
